How to Select Bearings for Fans and Pumps? Load, Sealing, Dustproof and Waterproof Key Points

Fans and pumps are universal mechanical equipment that operate continuously year-round. Their working conditions are mostly continuous operation, radial load, dusty, humid or even outdoor installation. Incorrect bearing selection can easily lead to water ingress, dust entry, corrosion, premature wear and seizure.

For fan and pump bearing selection, prioritize three points: load capacity, sealing type, and dustproof/waterproof grade.

Conventional centrifugal fans and pipeline pumps mainly bear radial load, so deep groove ball bearings are sufficient, featuring stable speed, easy installation and strong versatility. Large industrial fans, high-power pumps and cantilever equipment bear certain axial load, so angular contact ball bearings (or paired installation) are recommended to improve load capacity and operational stability.

Environment is critical:
  • Clean indoor working conditions: open or single-sided sealed bearings are acceptable.
  • Dusty, humid or outdoor environments: double-sealed, reinforced sealed bearings are mandatory to effectively block dust, moisture and water mist from entering the bearing interior, preventing grease deterioration and raceway corrosion.

In addition, fans and pumps usually run 24 hours nonstop, so bearings with long-life grease and high-wear-resistant materials should be preferred to reduce maintenance and replacement frequency. We have sufficient export stock and can provide one-to-one accurate model selection solutions for buyers based on fan/pump power, speed and installation environment.
